  • Verify that the 15-days delay required by the Cities and Towns Act has been respected, if applicable;
  • Verify that the 6-months limitation period required by the Cities and Towns Act has been respected, if applicable;
  • Gather preliminary information on the circumstances, probable cause, the nature and the extent of the damages;
  • Supply all photos and documents supporting the claim;
  • Get a service report from the concerned public works or municipal services;
  • Do no admit fault et abstain from settling the claim without the consent of the insurer.

  • Report the claim as soon as you receive an oral or written notice stating that the claimant intends to hold you accountable of an actionable wrong, an error or omission;
  • Do no admit fault et abstain from settling the claim without the consent of the insurer.

  • Communicate with the fire department, if necessary;
  • In case of an environmental incident, contact Environment Canada;
  • Have your insurance policy number or certificate number at hand;
  • Make sure you tend to any emergency to control the damages;
  • Gather preliminary information on the circumstances, probable cause, the nature and the extent of the damages;
  • Immediately remove valuable archives and/or documents from the damaged premises;
  • Take pictures of the damages;
  • Evacuate the premises;
  • Get a service report from the concerned public works or municipal services;
  • Report to the police department any criminal damage including vandalism, robbery or attempted vandalism or robbery;
  • Keep all items that may have caused the damage until a claim expert provides you more instructions;
  • Report the incident to your insurance company as soon as possible.
